A new study on the health and economic impacts of nickel smelting by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and the Centre of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS) takes a fresh look at the expected economic benefits vs health cost. Titled ‘Debunking the Myth of Added Value, Revisiting the Nickel Industry’, the study is an in-depth look at the economic, ecological and public health impacts of the nickel industry, focusing on the three main provinces where nickel smelting operations operate: Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and North Maluku.
