Disasters are intensifying across Indonesia, yet the 2026 budget for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has been cut by 75.62% to just IDR 491 billion. This allocation amounts to only around 0.4% of the estimated IDR 123.1 trillion in economic and health losses caused by forest and land fires.

At the same time, at least 50,000 people have reportedly been affected by suspected food poisoning linked to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Programme. The resulting socioeconomic losses are estimated at up to IDR 40.38 billion, with nearly IDR 12 billion borne directly by victims’ families.

Despite these mounting crises, the judicial review of the 2026 State Budget Law filed by the MBG Watch Coalition has not proceeded since April 2026, even though the petitioners have written to the Constitutional Court three times.

The state budget cannot be treated as a policy space beyond constitutional scrutiny. When budgetary decisions directly affect public safety, health, and livelihoods, they must be subject to review and accountability.

CELIOS urges the Constitutional Court to provide legal certainty and immediately resume the examination of Case No. 100/PUU-XXIV/2026 before the challenged law expires at the end of the fiscal year.
