Greenpeace Indonesia and CELIOS are launching a new report that highlights how relying on fossil gas as a “transition fuel” can actually hinder Indonesia’s energy transition efforts.
The report emphasizes that the government’s energy policies should not rely on false solutions that prolong Indonesia’s dependence on fossil fuels. Key recommendations from the report include:
- Canceling planned additions of fossil gas power plants in the upcoming 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL)
- Developing a roadmap for the retirement of fossil gas and other fossil fuel-based power plants
- Accelerating economic transformation by focusing on renewable energy, particularly solar and wind, instead of fossil gas power generation.
