Open Letter to OHCHR: Escalating Crisis in Indonesia
CELIOS, together with YLBHI and KontraS, has submitted an Open Letter to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The letter urges UN OHCHR to:
- Monitor, investigate, and report on human rights violations occurring during the recent wave of protests in Indonesia.
- Highlight the excessive use of force by security forces, military involvement in civilian affairs, mass arbitrary arrests, and the risk of enforced disappearances.
- Condemn the misuse of the ITE Law and the escalation of digital repression targeting activists and civil society.
Indonesia is facing a severe democratic decline and the normalization of authoritarian practices. Immediate international attention is urgently needed to stop state violence and ensure accountability.
