Book Talk: China–Indonesia Relations 2025 Year in Review and 2026 Outlook at Hong Kong Chu Hai College and The University of Hong Kong

Description:

Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), in collaboration with the Ng Teng Fong Sino Group Belt and Road Research Institute at Hong Kong Chu Hai College and the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong, organized a series of book talks discussing China–Indonesia Relations: 2025 Year in Review and 2026 Outlook. The events served as a platform for scholars, researchers, and policy observers to reflect on key developments shaping China–Indonesia relations in 2025 and to explore possible trajectories for bilateral cooperation in 2026.
The discussions highlighted developments across trade, investment, infrastructure, and emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence—while also addressing cooperation in downstream mineral industries, energy transition, and digital technologies. As the two countries marked 75 years of diplomatic relations, speakers examined the broader geopolitical context influencing the partnership, including Indonesia’s engagement with BRICS, global trade realignments, and evolving strategic considerations in defense and regional diplomacy. Overall, the events provided a concise assessment of both the opportunities and governance challenges shaping the future of China–Indonesia relations.
