CELIOS, in collaboration with the #BersihkanBankmu Coalition, launched a new report titled “Funding the Climate Crisis: How Banks in Indonesia Support Coal Financing”, revealing that five major national banks are the main financiers of the coal sector, contributing USD 5.6 billion out of a total USD 7.2 billion in coal-related financing.
During the launch event, Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara, Executive Director of CELIOS, strongly criticized the weak government policies and the lack of a consistent energy transition strategy, which continue to enable funding for coal-fired power plants (PLTU) and coal mining operations.
🔍 Bank Mandiri led the financing with USD 3.2 billion, followed by BRI (USD 809.5 million), BNI (USD 719.6 million), BCA (USD 451 million), and Bank Permata (USD 424 million).
