Research Dissemination and Public Discussion: Assessing the Potential and Impact of Restorative Economy in Indonesia

Description:

Jakarta, November 26, 2024 — The Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS) launched the second volume of its Restorative Economy research through a research dissemination and public discussion event titled “Assessing the Potential and Impact of Restorative Economy in Indonesia.” The event brought together speakers from various backgrounds and marked one episode in a series of Restorative Economy discussions initiated by CELIOS. The series aims to explore whether a restorative economy can serve as an effective solution to Indonesia’s economic challenges.

During the event, Bhima Yudhistira, Executive Director of CELIOS, highlighted the importance of restorative economy as aligned with efforts to strengthen food security. “The Prabowo administration could promote sustainable agriculture and fisheries practices to be integrated into the supply of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, for instance, so that local food can be prioritized. This strategy could help reduce MBG logistics costs and maximize the impact on farmers and local businesses,” said Bhima.

The study also proposes a Roadmap for Developing a Restorative Economy toward a more sustainable and inclusive economic model. In the first five years (2025–2030), the government could focus on tax incentive policies, strengthening environmental protection regulations, and establishing dedicated investment funds for restorative projects. The following five years (2030–2035) could emphasize the development of green infrastructure, sustainable technology, integration of restorative economy principles into regional development plans (RPJMD), and the launch of ecosystem restoration programs in local areas. In the final five years (2035–2040), ecosystem restoration programs could be expanded, with data-driven evaluation and policy adjustments.

The report underscores that the restorative economy is not only relevant in terms of economic growth but also offers a long-term sustainability solution. By managing natural resources wisely, improving environmental quality, and ensuring fair income distribution, the restorative economy provides a path toward building a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economy.
